Road Transportation Development and Land Use Changes in Semarang City, Central Java, Indonesia

This research aims to make a historical mapping of the development road infrastructure and impact on land use changes. A analysis was conducted based documents reports transportation development, construction, urban planning in Semarang City, capital city Central Java, Indonesia. From perspective, change City were determined by economic activities from early period colonialism, especially when this devoted as port Java with massive coastal inhabitants. Along activity, ports roads built, accelerating city’s until mid 20th century. Road construction generated problems such rapid urbanization, environmental problems. Meanwhile, also accelerated agglomeration, connecting other cities North Coast. However, 1990s symptom private occurred which became most critical issue later periods.
